Study on Transient Dynamic Characteristics of Oil Spill From Submarine Pipelines Buried in Soil Layers
Abstract: This study focuses on the dynamic characteristics of oil spills from submarine pipelines buried in shallow soil layers, aiming to reveal the migration and diffusion laws of oil spills in such an environment. Existing research has mostly concentrated on oil diffusion in seawater, with relatively few studies dedicated to diffusion in soil. A combined method of laboratory experiments and numerical simulations is adopted to analyze the impacts of key factors (e.g., soil porosity, permeability, and pipeline burial depth) on the seepage velocity, diffusion range, and migration path of oil spills, as well as to explore the exchange mechanism and dynamic response characteristics of oil spills at the soil-seawater interface. The results indicate that the heterogeneity of shallow buried soil layers significantly alters the dynamic characteristics of oil spills: soil with high porosity accelerates the lateral diffusion of oil spills, while soil with low permeability tends to cause oil spills to accumulate around the pipeline. The research findings can be used as the source term of the governing equation in the numerical model for oil diffusion in water, and simultaneously provide a theoretical basis and technical support for the risk assessment of submarine pipeline oil spills, the formulation of emergency disposal plans, and pollution prevention and control.

Presenting Author Biography: I am Sun Pengfei, a male Ph.D. and Postdoctoral Researcher at the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST). My research primarily focuses on the development technology of deep-sea mineral and oil-gas resources, as well as the environmental disturbance mechanism. During my doctoral studies at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, I served as a core member in the overall design of two types of deep-sea mining vehicles. I also conducted in-depth research on the application of marine geotechnical numerical simulation and experimental technologies in the field of deep-sea mining. To date, I have published more than 10 academic papers and obtained over 10 patents related to my research areas.
