Research on Ice-Ship Collision Simulation in Floe Ice Fields Based on In-Situ Data Comparative Analysis
With the decrease of sea ice coverage in Arctic regions caused by global warming, polar ships collide with floating ice more frequently when sailing in the Arctic. However, the verification method of traditional numerical model fails to better reflect the dynamic response characteristics of ship ice collision. Therefore, this paper compares and analyzes the stress simulation results of icebreakers with the sensor data collected by real ships when sailing in the Arctic through numerical simulation of ship ice collision in floating ice field, so as to provide suggestions for the design of icebreakers.
Firstly, the ice material model is optimized with reference to the international norms, and the pressure damage characteristics are improved by combining with the additional damage criterion to simulate the failure and fracture process of sea ice under stress conditions. Then, a numerical model of ship-ice-water coupling is established by using the ALE fluid-solid coupling method to simulate the phenomenon of ice floes continuously impacted by the bow of an icebreaker, and the effects of different ice thicknesses, ice floe densities, and sailing speeds on the ice resistance of the icebreaker are explored. The reliability and practicability of the numerical model is verified by comparing and analyzing the numerical results of ship-ice collision with the measured in-situ polar sea ice data. The results of the study show that in the dynamic simulation of ship-ice collision in the ice floe field, the ice floes appear to slip, flip, pile up and sink, etc. With the increase of ice thickness, denseness and speed, the ice pile up phenomenon is more and more obvious, and the ship's bow stress increases, and the frequency of peaks increases as well.
