How to Accelerate Low Emission Technology Solutions for Uptake in the Oil and Gas Industry
There is an increased demand by the Norwegian state and the Paris agreement to reduce the environmental footprint from offshore oil and gas production. Norway has set targets for 50-55% emission reductions on the Norwegian Continental Shelf by 2030 and to move towards zero emission activities on the Norwegian Continental Shelf by 2050. The LowEmission CentreCentre is a major research centreCentre in Norway, where the industry collaborates with thacademia and research institutes to reduce offshore emissions related to oil and gas production offshore. As part of the work to bring new research-based technology to the industry, innovation several paths to accelerated low emission technology solutions for uptake in the oil and gas industry haves been takendone. The activities and workflows carried out in the Centre are innovations mapping and sprints, construction of technology road maps and performing selected case studies.
mapping and making of roadmaps have been carried out. The innovation maps identify each innovation and describe their technology readiness level (TRL), while the roadmaps present strategies for maturing and implementing identified technologies. In this work we will present how the workflow has been carried out in the CentreCentre, and the learnings from it. For each technology the goals, vision and possible assumptions for implementation are stated. One example is energy efficient drainage and use of oil and gas reservoirs for energy load balancing and CO2 storage. Selected case studies and spin-off projects have increased the potential for industry uptake of research results and thereby the Centre’s impact.
An important driver for accelerating technology development towards elevated maturity and industry-driven innovation is to facilitate collaboration between research, academia and industry with the aim to narrow the gap between precompetitive research and ‘real-world’ testing and implementation.
