126566 - The Bearing Capacity of Torpedo Anchor in Clay Under Inclined Loading of Mooring Line
Torpedo anchor is a promisingly novel used anchorage foundation in deep water due to its efficient and economical installation. A significant stretch of mooring lines was embedded into the seabed during the installation of the torpedo anchor. The friction resistance due to chain-soil interaction can reduce the load that transferred from floating facilities to anchors. Therefore, both the anchor-soil interaction and the chain-soil interaction contribute to the pullout capacity of the torpedo anchor. The Configuration of the mooring line will also affect the pullout performance and failure mechanism. However, there is a lack of understanding of the performance of torpedo anchors considering the mooring line in numerical analysis. This paper aims to investigate the pullout capacity of torpedo anchors in clay via the large deformation finite element method (LDFE) considering a mooring line attached on the padeye. The elastic-perfectly plastic material model obeying modified Tresca constitutive was utilized. The modified Tresca model considered the strain rate effect and strain softening and its accuracy and effectiveness are validated by field test results. A series of parametric studies were conducted to explore the effect of the mooring line, loading angle and padeye position on the pullout capacity and failure mechanism. Based on the numerical analysis, the optimal padeye position and normalized V-H envelopes were given. This paper can provide an insight in torpedo anchor capacity and failure mechanism.
