102440 - Digital Twin Concept for Offshore Wind Farm Jacket Lifting Frame
This paper presents a structural Digital Twin solution for a physical asset, the ‘Lifting Frame arrangement’ designed for up-righting wind farm jackets from the horizontally built condition to the vertical condition in a construction yard. The Lifting Frame arrangement is a crane type structure with a fixed foundation, a fixed boom structure and strand jacks mounted at the tip. The lifting frame is designed, fabricated, installed, operated and maintained by Lamprell Energy Ltd, aiming to reduce cost, schedule and project risks.
The cost of maintaining the lifting frame infrastructure increases at a fast rate once the asset approaches its design life, furthermore the operational safety and structural integrity of the lifting frame system requires stringent assurance since this is a unique method of up-righting jackets. A structural Digital Twin will hence minimize such costs while assuring structural integrity of the complete system. This solution also enables increasing the capacity of the Lifting Frame by revisiting the design safety factors based on the operational history and measured reactions.
This paper describes the steps necessary to develop the digital twin solution and the sensors used for monitoring operations as well as the status of the structural health of Lifting Frame. The method followed is reduced basis finite element analysis (RB-FEA) using Akselos’ software.
