Computational Analysis on the Gap Flow Between Quay Wall and Multi Floaters
In this research, computational analysis on the gap flow between quay wall and multi-floaters has been conducted in the two-dimensional numerical wave tank. Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) and potential flow codes are adopted to conduct the numerical study. We mainly focus on the piston mode of gap flow because most ships near quay wall have piston mode of gap flow near the peak of wave spectrum. The natural frequency of piston mode and the variation of wave amplitude at different wave frequency have been researched. We have checked three variables which influence on the gap flow. They are as follows: Variable 1. The number of floaters near quay wall. Two different uniform ships have been chosen by considering the LNG bunkering ship of KRISO(Korea Research Institute of Ship and Ocean engineering) and a LNG fueled general ship. Gap flow between qual wall and multi floaters has higher natural frequency than that of one floater next to the wall. Variable 2. Sectional shape of a ship. The wave amplitude is compared to each other when the section of a ship has rectangular shape or midship section of each vessel (main principle is same). The change of shape has made the natural frequency be moved slightly and the viscous damping be reduced. 3. Distance between floaters and quay wall. In all cases of calculations, two gap distances have been used and it has been confirmed that the property of gap flow is different at each gap distance.
