78945 - Numerical Simulation of Ship-Ice Interaction in Pack Ice Area Based on CFD-DEM Coupling Method
Global warming has caused significant changes in the environment of the Arctic region. For reasons of economy and efficiency, the number of ships sailing in the Arctic region has been increasing recently. While broken ice is a common ice condition in the Arctic region, studying the ship-ice interaction in the broken ice area is of great significance in improving the safety of ship navigation. Based on the CFD-DEM coupling method, this paper establishes a numerical simulation model for the ship-ice interaction in the broken ice area, with the influence of the flow field on the ship-ice interaction being fully considered. Taking the KCS ship as the study object, numerical simulation is conducted. Through the comparison of the numerical results with the available experimental results, it is found that the numerical simulation model can not only predict the ice resistance in ship-ice interaction more accurately, but also can properly simulate the phenomenon of ship-ice interaction. On this basis, a method for generating broken ice area is proposed to make the generated broken ice area more in line with the real situation. At the same time, the influence of ship speed and broken ice concentration on ship-ice interaction is studied, and the motion characteristics of the broken ices are exhibited. This work can provide a reference for numerical simulation of navigation process of ships in the broken ice area.
